From EHS to Empowerment: Government of Alberta Goes Live with Sodales

GoA Levels Up Incident Management

The Government of Alberta (GoA) has officially launched Sodales as its new platform for managing workplace health and safety incidents – and the difference has been nothing short of transformative for their expansive workforce of over 25,000 employees. Replacing their outdated and underperforming EHS system, GoA’s move to Sodales marks a new era of streamlined investigations, improved data capture and real-time reporting.

The decision to modernize came after years of frustration with a system that was difficult to use, inconsistent in its data collection and often left key safety actions undocumented. Investigations were rarely completed, corrective actions were tracked in ad hoc ways (if at all) and reporting required manually checking individual incidents.

Now, with Sodales, those challenges are part of the past – as our software brings a level of depth and scalability that’s essential for large organizations.

A New Standard for Investigations

Sodales has brought immediate improvements to investigation workflows. The platform guides users through each step, ensuring accurate and complete data entry from the outset – whether it’s capturing injury details, identifying the location of an incident or documenting organizational context. Incidents are automatically routed to the appropriate supervisor, reducing delays and eliminating confusion around accountability.

Corrective actions are no longer an afterthought. As part of each investigation, CAs are now drafted, assigned and tracked within the system. That functionality was virtually absent in the former tool, where only 20% of cases included corrective actions – and most were buried in comments.

Real-Time Visibility and Empowered Users

One of the most celebrated upgrades is the introduction of real-time reporting. Now, Occupational Health and Safety Committees (OHSCs) can monitor investigation status and incident trends without needing to dig through individual records. Supervisors are empowered with visibility into their team’s performance and the broader organization can use insights to improve prevention strategies.

Beyond the technology, what stands out most is user empowerment. As one stakeholder noted, the organization is seeing completed investigations and corrective actions without significant handholding – and that’s an undeniable KPI!

Innovative Features That Drive Adoption

What truly sets Sodales apart is its attention to detail and user experience. Our modern interface is intuitive, minimizing the number of clicks required to complete complex processes. This means, when it comes to features, there is plenty for our clients to be excited about – but let’s take a look at some of GoA’s most lauded ones:

  • Seamless Integration with SAP and Google platforms.
  • Digital WCB Forms that auto-populate with data from SuccessFactors and incident reporting modules.
  • Drawing tools for motor vehicle and equipment collisions, including standard road diagrams and custom canvas options.
  • Unique workflows for different types of incidents, ensuring accuracy and relevance.
  • Signature panels and privacy settings that support secure, traceable documentation.
  • Archive functionality and audit trail visibility for transparency.

These accessible and flexible functionalities, among many others, help the organization save time by cutting down on manual inputs and accelerating internal processes without compromising integrity.

Users have been vocal about their satisfaction, calling the solution intuitive, fantastic and even describing it as apples to rotten potatoes compared to their old system.

What’s Next for GoA

With Sodales deployed, GoA has a scalable, intelligent platform to support a safer and more compliant public sector workforce. The shift isn’t just about replacing a legacy tool – it’s about building a culture of accountability, prevention and proactive safety management.

As the Government of Alberta continues to evolve its safety programs, the foundation laid by Sodales ensures that everyone – from frontline workers to senior leadership – has the tools and insights needed to foster a resilient, data-driven workplace.

Congratulations to the Government of Alberta team on a successful Go-Live!
